It's winter, the option of doing outside activities is limited for me, so I'm turning inward as a lot of us do. Decluttering, rearranging, and making things over. It feels like the winter of my discontent, well, maybe not. Sorry Shakespeare:
"Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this sun of York:
And all the clouds that lour'd upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried."
From "Richard III"
This small lamp was too bright at bedside, so I darkened it a bit with the paper napkin and a lower watt bulb.
I decoupaged the napkin on to the outside of the lampshade. The napkin was 3 layers thick, and I used the outermost layer with the most color. So easy to change the look of a lamp with a napkin of your choice. But, it's missing a little something... any ideas to add trim?
I wanted to add that it's time for you to go to the aceo challenge blog have a look at the January entries and vote. My aceo is one of the aceos you'll see there. Thanks for checking it out.

beautiful lamp and I'll go vote right now!
Gloria, I love the lamp! I am thinking about the trim. Little beads hanging down? Little tassels? I am not sure? I'm not being to much help, am I? LOL! I do think little beads hanging down would be pretty, to reflect the light ;o) Big Hugs ;o)
Awesome lamp, Gloria. I'm always making the shade over for the lamp on my desk. Most recently I used fabric with a velvet piece of trim at the top and bottom. Then spaced around I added hanging wild animals that I repurposed from a necklace I had. Maybe some silk roses strategically placed? Or ribbon roses around the bottom?
Sounds like a simple way to upgrade a lamp shade! Thanks so much for sharing it at the Kiss & Tell party over at my place :)
By the way, you have word verification on. If you're interested, I have a post that tells how to turn it off and receive more comments. http://igottacreate.blogspot.com/2011/12/bloggy-tips-101.html
Debbie, your lamp sounds pretty and the animals well, show us a photo!
Thanks everyone, Stacy I was wondering about that bead trim, too- great minds, ha ha.
Thanks Laurie!
Christina, you know I turned that verification off a few months ago, thanks for telling me it was on. I wonder if that has any connection to all the commenting, linking, etc. problems going around? Anyway, I turned it off AGAIN! Glad you let me know about it.
Oh, I love the lamp! I never would have thought of using paper napkins! Happy Weekend!
Cindy
I think the lamp looks great and wouldn't add anything but then I like more simple lampshades!
Hmmm, I wonder what would happen if you applied the same napkins to the lamp base and then decoupaged that? Might be an interesting outcome ...
PS ... I voted! Be great if you are one of the winners!
The lampshade looks fabulous! You could dangle some natural color wood beads around the trim. I will vote for your aceo. :)
What a great idea. Your lamp turned out so cute! I think a simple ribbon in a coordinating color would be perfect.

Thank you Cindy, Lucy, Karen Anne, Val, and Valerie.
I used up the napkins, so doing the base would be with something else, but that's a good idea. I like less frou frou on the lamp, too- beads or a ribbon would finish it nicely.
Thanks for the votes, :D I hope more people will add their aceos next month, too.
I think the lamp turned out perfectly! I can't believe that is a napkin! Impressive! I wouldn't change anything.....I think it is perfect, just like it is!
blessings,
karianne
Oh WOW, Gloria--this looks fabulous!!!! You are soooo talented!!!
XO
Cindy
I just went and voted!!!!!
Thanks Karianne and thanks double Cindy!
Just passing by & WHAT... I thought I'd left a comment here, ahh sometimes I swear I imagine writing a comment & move on LOL, we have pretty rs lampshades I think a makeover is a great idea, & a lot more satisfying than throwing out something that works perfectly well! Love the result :)
Thanks Shelle and that sounds like when my husband says that he told me something and I say you thought you did, but I never heard it, oh wait, that's a different story. ha ha You might want a glass of wine and to put your feet up- that sounds like a good idea to me.
