Ups and Downs of Winter and Blog Solutions January 23, 2012

The ups and downs of the thermometer over the past two weeks means that the coat closet never gets thinned out since everything from rain jackets, lightweight coats, wool coats, and all of the gloves, hats, and scarves were used in no particular order.

Frost was my view from the desk this morning, these were long crystals growing in different directions and stuck to the windowscreen.  As soon as the sun peeked through the trees, these became a wet spray on the tiny holes.  I know, because I was changing the camera settings and looked down and then back to find the crystals seeping ice tears on the screen.

Earlier in the week the car doors were frozen shut from the tiny grainy snow that had fallen for two days and nights in bitter cold temps.  A few days of darkness, where you need to have all the indoor lights on even in the early afternoon can be disconcerting to say the least.  Finally, after the ground had been snow covered for a few days, we had a reprieve of warmer temps and the grass was seen again, along with strong winds and rain.  Then we got more wind and a few more inches of snow.  So, the winter so far hasn't been all snowdrifts, but the 0 degree temps with bitter windschills are not my cup of tea.

I just wanted to add that as I read your blogs and leave comments, I'm finding that as soon as I press, "Publish" the comment vaporizes, it doesn't appear.  I haven't been able to join your linkies or follow new blogs, either.  This is not true 100% of the time, so it's unpredictable and I don't know what is causing it or how to fix it.  Some blogs I used to comment at fairly regularly; but for the past few weeks now that's not happening.  I hope you understand.

I think some of you are also having similar problems.
Switching to Firefox or Chrome is supposed to fix these problems, but I'm using Chrome, so that's not my solution.  If you have a solution, please share.  Thanks!

ETA:  Found the fix- enable 3rd party in your Settings in the Browser.

I had a problem much the same a while back and found that by not ticking the automatic sign in to your blog seemed to work for me. It means signing in manually each time you go on the internet rather than it automatically remembering who you are, it sounds daft! but for me it worked. Sue x

Cool photo! This winter is so odd. It was about 0 degrees early yesterday morning and today is going up to 45 where I am. Overnight the temperature is not even going to drop.

I have had that same problem. The solution that works for me is when you sign into Blogger, uncheck the "stay signed in box". I learned that from reading the help forum. It makes no sense, but it worked!

Hello Gloria ;o) The same kind of weather has been happening here! Today, pooring rain! Yuck! Then it's going to freeze! Honestly, I just wish the snow would come and stay! I don't like this damp cold weather!!! And, the roads get more slippery too!
I didn't realize you were having problems commenting. I think I e-mailed you? I had to change the embedded below for comments. I changed it to the pop up window and now everyone has told me they can comment. So I hope you can ;o)
Take Care ;o)

The change in temperature back and forth causes havoc with my sinuses. We got 4 or 5 inches of snow on Saturday, but today (Mon.) and Tues. are expected to get near 50! Right now at 6:40 pm it is still 46 degrees!

I had the same problem awhile back--I already use Firefox--and it just went away on its own (or Blogger fixed it).

I know what you mean Gloria, we had one week where it was 50 degrees one day and 17 the next. When I left my house this morning it was 45 degrees and when I got home around 2:00 pm the temperature had already dropped into the 20's. I don't know if I can take anymore of this weird weather.

I hope blogger fixes the problem, it can be very frustrating when you want to leave a comment and can't.

I'll give that a try, there's no rhyme or reason, so it might just work ;)!

I'll write a comment and then watch it disappear, it makes me not want to keep trying, but I will- it's got to resolve itself some time (I hope) :)!

The past few weeks here have been really up and down the thermometer. We made it to 41 last night and the rain started, today 55 and all the snow is gone yay! This makes up for the huge amounts of snow last year which stayed around all winter.

I'm going to try unchecking the box, and cross my fingers :0!

We got that rain, too and strong winds. You can have all the snow you want, a gift from me, all winter long...I like mild temps and for snow to not hang around. When I was young it was fun to have snow: sledding, no school, etc. but now with driving and such, it's just more stress and high utility bills. I hope your rain doesn't freeze on the roads and power lines.

I can't figure out why the comments isn't working right. Some blogs have the embedded and others the full page and both give me problems. I couldn't add links to link parties and my new followers haven't gotten my thank you because my comment wouldn't publish. I've been able to comment on your blog, not on Karen Anne's blog and not on a bunch of others. I'll make sure I am unchecking the stay signed in box, I thought I already did that, but I'll see if that makes any difference.

I know what you mean about the sinuses, and the heat in the house running more often doesn't help. All the snow is gone and we will be in the 30s the rest of the week. January flew by.

I tried FF, couldn't read the typeface and their solution to fix it wouldn't work on my computer, as I didn't have the program that FF said would enable the typeface to be clearer, so I had to move to Chrome. Hopefully something will work soon to fix the problems.

Valerie, that temperature range is hard to deal with every day. I enjoyed that warm day when I had to go in and out of the car a bunch of times in one day, and dodge the rain and wind, but after that I just wanted to go somewhere and hibernate with some hot tea and dream of greener places.

I stopped at a blog and after reading the post wanted to share something similar, but after writing the comment and watching it disappear, it just was sad. Blogging is connecting and I hope she (the blogger) doesn't think I am ignoring her. I hope Google is listening and a fix is on the way.

I have to admit the weather has been nice in Sedona so I cannot and actually won't complain or boast LOL.

Oh,and I have read on other blogs about this problem of commenting and linking up. So far I have been lucky and not encountered any problems and I am going to cross my fingers because I would not have a clue as to how to fix things. You must be so frustrated.

Hi Tiki, Hi Lucy! Our weather is changing to rain/ice mix, I think you might see that in sw Michigan- just hoping the utility lines don't get ice laden and come down. Sunny Sedona, a winter paradise? Yes, there's been nothing I can do to fix the blog problem, maybe time will bring about a solution.
